My aunt and uncle live in Petersburg - round 30 minutes away from Richmond, so that's how I ended up there. I've never actually lived in Virginia, but I've been there almost every summer for the past 18 years. After six weeks in Petersburg, my mom packed us up and we made our way to Labe, Guinea (in West Africa).
I'm not exactly sure how old I was when my mother decided to leave her job in Guinea and move to Kalamazoo, Michigan to become a Geography professor at a university there. I don't really remember it much because I was only around 2, but I do remember the birth of my brother and my first experience in kindergarden (or it may have been daycare... the first few years of my schooling were jumbled up).
After my brother was born (I was 3&1/2) we stayed in Michigan for another year after which we moved back to Labe, Guinea. We were in Labe for 4 years, during which I was homeschooled along with the children of my mother's colleagues. As we weren't living in the capitol of Guinea (Conakry) there wasn't an international school for us to attend. When I found out we were leaving Guinea, I was devastated. My earliest and fondest memories (to date) had take place there. But, it was all for the best, as we moved on to Bamako, Mali.
(I will continue the story of my wordly path tomorrow - I'm in high school and I'm tired. Sleep is good.)
